Research & Awards


I have completed my graduation from Rajshahi University with first class in all academic examination and started the career as a Research and Development (R & D) officer at Nipa Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Mirpur-2, Dhaka. Afterward I got promoted as Quality Control (QC) In-charge. As the QC In-charge I was responsible for smooth operation of quality control department, new product development, analytical method development and process validation. I was also worked as a Research Associate under the research project “Characterization of α-N-acetylgalactosaminidase I and II from starfish (Asterina amurensis) and squid (Todarodes pacificus)” in the Health Chemistry Laboratory, Niigata University of Pharmacy and Applied Life Sciences (NUPALS), Niigata, Japan. I also taught undergraduate student in the laboratory to handle their laboratory classes as the Research Associate. After returning to my motherland, I have joined as Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy, World University of Bangladesh, Dhaka, and then got promoted as Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy at the same University.

       I complete my PhD course in the Institute of Biological Sciences, Rajshahi University, Rajshahi, Bangladesh, in collaboration with Health Chemistry Department, Niigata University of Pharmacy and Applied Life Sciences (NUPALS), Niigata, Japan. My PhD research title was “Molecular and Enzymatic Characterization of α-N-Acetylgalactosaminidases from Starfish and Hilsha”.


To build up my career in Teaching and Professional Research, Our Research Group are under investigation on Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Technology, Bioactive Constituents in natural sources, and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

Training experiences

  1. Six weeks (15th March to 23rd April, 1998) In-plant training in Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

  2. One week (8th to 13th June, 2002) training course on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) was obtained in manufacturing and quality control of drugs organized by the Directorate of Drugs Administration in collaboration with WHO held in Dhaka.

  3. Screening, Isolation, Purification, Structure Determination by Spectroscopic analysis (UV, IR, NMR & EIMS), Pharmacological and Toxicological Evaluation of Natural Products.

  4. Able to operate HPLC, UV Spectrophotometer, Karlfishcer titrator, Potentiometer, IR spectrometer, Fluorometer, MALDI-TOF MASS spectrometer and all other necessary machine and tools used in the research laboratory.

  5. Well conversant in computer operation in MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-Power point.

Research Experiences and Awards
  1. Two (1998 - 2000) years research experience on Natural Product Chemistry in the Department of Pharmacy, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Gafur. In this period I have isolated and identified a number of bioactive compounds from plant extracts by Chromatographic Technique, NMR and Mass Spectral Analysis. Their antibacterial, antifungal activity and cytotoxicity studies were performed using in vitro Serial Dilution Technique, Disc Diffusion Method and Brine Shrimp Lethality Bioassay.
  2. Three (2000 - 2003) years research experience on the pharmaceutical dosage form preparation, new product lunching, reformulations of existing product, validation of product formulation, analytical method development and validation as a R & D and Quality Control In-charge in Nipa Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
  3. Five years (October 2003-March 2009) research experience on the field of enzymology in the Department of Health Chemistry, NUPALS, Niigata, Japan as a Research Associate. In this period I was isolated, purified and characterized two α-N-acetylgalactosaminidases (I & II) from starfish (Asterina amurensis) and squid (Todarodes pacificus). Interestingly α-N-acetylgalactosaminidase II showed unique activity but α-N- acetylgalactosaminidase I showed a lesser extent of α-galactosidase activity along with its α-GalNAcase activity. Characterization of α-N-acetylgalactosaminidase (I & II) was done by the number of experiment such as chromatographic technique (gel filtration, ion exchange chromatography and affinity chromatography), molecular mass analysis, stability, kinetics and inhibitory studies, and SDS-PAGE analysis.
  4. Five years research project on Molecular and Enzymatic Characterization of α-N-Acetylgalactosamindases Enzyme from Starfish and Hilsha fish as the PhD research course under the supervision of Prof Dr. Md. Golam Sadik. In this research period I characterized α-GalNAcase I and II by deglycosylation, N-terminal amino acid sequencing, electro-blotting, immunostaining, peptide mapping and internal amino acid sequencing of peptide by amino acid sequence analyzer and also by MS/MS analysis by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer.  I also differentiate α-GalNAcase I and II by chemical modification and evaluate the difference in molecular structure and the reason of their substrate specificity.
  5. Research is going on investigation of various glycosidase enzymes and bioactive constituents from natural sources.
  6. Awarded Rajshahi University Scholarship at Graduate Level & Provost’s Award at Postgraduate Level.
